Many young people learn how to dress well, speak well, perform well, and appear strong, but they do not always learn how to care for what is happening inside them. They may smile in public while feeling confused, overwhelmed, tired, angry, lonely, or afraid in private. Sometimes, they think God only cares about their behavior and not their emotions.
But God cares about the inner life.
The Bible does not present human beings as machines. We are not created to function without feeling. We are made in the image of God, and our emotional life matters. Scripture shows people crying, rejoicing, grieving, hoping, fearing, lamenting, and recovering strength in God. David poured out his heart before the Lord. Elijah felt exhausted. Hannah wept deeply. Jesus Himself was moved with compassion and sorrow.
This means emotional struggle is not automatically spiritual failure. Feeling tired does not mean you are faithless. Feeling sad does not mean God has rejected you. Feeling afraid does not mean you are useless. The issue is not whether emotions exist; the issue is what we do with them.
A God-first young person must learn to bring the inner life before God honestly. You do not need to pretend before the One who already knows your heart. Prayer is not only for asking God to change situations. Prayer is also where we open our hearts to God and allow His truth to correct, comfort, and strengthen us.
Emotional health begins when we stop hiding from God and start becoming honest before Him.
God is not embarrassed by your tears. He is not confused by your questions. He is not irritated by your weakness. He invites you to come near.
Scripture Anchor:
“Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us.” — Psalm 62:8
Reflection:
What emotion have I been hiding from God instead of bringing to Him?
Prayer:
Lord, teach me to be honest with You. Help me to understand my inner life and bring my emotions under Your truth, comfort, and wisdom. I ask in Jesus’ name, Amen.
